Gay men began to come out more and express themselves more publicly as the sexual revolution involving marches and protests brought forward a once taboo topic. The Stonewall Riots, as mentioned in the study guide, was a moment of freedom and forever symbolizes the movement. It brought national view to the community. Although they already had a reaction against their community, the AIDS/HIV initial outbreak made people even more discontent and afraid of them. Even to this day, AIDS/HIV still exist and kill people daily. Currently we have had backlash against not only the gay community, but also those changing their gender identity. This has mainly been seen through legal executions (both positive and negative). President Trump is taking small steps to push for religious freedom in the workplace (such as being able to fire someone if their Sexual Orientation doesn’t agree with your religious viewpoints). I highly doubt President Trump, like many other Presidents (both democratic and republican) in the past, will make any strides to help the AIDS crisis.
